Aberdeen, a consistent supporter of BDTI, has produced this short note (see link below for full memo) succinctly summarizing the recent progress in Japan on corporate governance. ”One year after Japan introduced a voluntary Corporate Governance code, there are signs of progress. Boards are more prepared to engage with shareholders and capital management may be improving. But it’s too early to tell. While we welcome the company-specific good news, there still remain big gaps between form and substance. Third party share issuance; related party transactions; attendance and voting at AGMs. Companies say they are changing and they have to be given time. But change does not come naturally……………”
